Victor Wembanyama and Dylan Harper have clear goal as a duo next season

The San Antonio Spurs need to start thinking about their youngsters more next season. Obviously, winning a title is the ultimate goal, and that’s all they should be focused on. But in the process, the Spurs can begin to foster an even better offensive relationship between Victor Wembanyama and Dylan Harper. Those two guys need to lead the Spurs into the future (alongside Stephon Castle).

During the playoffs last year, Castle did a great job of setting Wembanyama up for success. He was a lead passer for the Spurs. Now, San Antonio needs Harper to grow into a similar role. That means more pick-and-rolls with Wembanyama so he can learn where the big man wants the ball the most. They need to develop more of that chemistry.

The Harper-Wembanyama connection not only needs to be one of the strongest on the Spurs, but it also needs to be one of the strongest in the entire league.

Dylan Harper and Victor Wembanyama need even better chemistry

Heading into next season, it looks like Harper and De’Aaron Fox are going to share the backcourt. Maybe the Spurs keep bringing Harper off the bench, but he’s pretty clearly a starting-caliber player.

Running a lineup of Fox, Harper, Castle, Julian Champagnie, and Wembanyama makes the most sense. Castle can guard up, and then the Spurs would have three great playmakers in their lineup, all ready to feed Wemby.

At this point, both Fox and Castle have more experience building an offensive relationship with Wemby. They’ve just been around for a bit longer than Harper has.

But Harper is the future. His impressive showing in the playoffs – and the Finals, in particular – last year proved that. The 20-year-old is one of the brightest young stars in the league, and he’s playing next to another.

Wembanyama already has a case for being the best player in the NBA. He’s the best defender in the world, but he needs to keep improving on the offensive end.

Harper can help with that. If he gets better at running the pick-and-roll with Wemby and keeps fostering that relationship, both of their lives will get much, much easier.

So, as Harper gets ready for what should be a huge sophomore season, one of his biggest focuses should be building an even better offensive relationship with Wembanyama.

Because if the Spurs can get those two on the same page consistently, then their offense will be close to impossible to stop.
