The 2024 Paris Olympics were quite the journey for Victor Wembanyama. In his first chance to participate in the prestigious games, he held responsibility as the team's best player as a 20-year-old playing in his home country. Netflix catalogued behind-the-scenes action for several teams in their newly released Court of Gold docuseries, and while Team USA won the gold, Wemby was the star of the show.

Fans get to go on a tour of locker rooms, training facilities, and relationships in this epic series covering what felt like a monumental event, even for the Olympics. You'll hear everything from trash-talking players to insightful coach-speak from the teachers of the game worldwide. But the fun and obscure moments have a special place too, and it didn't take long to get one from the Alien.

Wembanyama would binge Stranger Things during recovery

When sharing a meal with two Rudy Gobert and Evan Fournier in episode two, Fournier asked about Gobert's time in a hyperbaric chamber—a tool athletes use for recovery. After the four-time Defensive Player of the Year's response, Wemby chimed in with his experience using the device in one-hour sessions 3-4 times a week one summer while he recovered from an injury.

It was then that he shared what kept him busy during those treatments. "At the time, Stranger Things had just come out. So every day, I'd pick up the show where I left off," he said.

If you're unfamiliar with Stranger Things, it's another Netflix original TV series. It's a sci-fi thriller that took the world by storm when it was released in July 2016. The irony, of course, is knowing that a player with extraterrestrial descriptors was, like the rest of us, heavily invested in a show about the unknown.

Hyperbaric chambers are fascinating in their own right. You climb into it, and someone closes you inside. It's defined as a specially designed, pressurized room where a patient breathes pure oxygen at a higher than normal atmospheric pressure, allowing their body to absorb significantly more oxygen than usual.

Fans definitely want their favorite athletes using every piece of technology possible to ensure they can suit up on game days, and it's fascinating to see what those tools look like.

Court of Gold gave us a look at the device when Gobert used it, and that was cool. Knowing that the Alien was probably losing his mind just like the rest of us watching Eleven wreck shop in the Upside Down was even cooler.

Watch Court of Gold only on Netflix.
