Tobias Harris' signature skill is about to make Victor Wembanyama's life much easier

The San Antonio Spurs' addition of veteran Tobias Harris could be great news for star Victor Wembanyama, with one defining skill likely to make a big difference. Harris has played for seven teams in 15 seasons, with one skill traveling with him to each of his NBA stops.

He might not be known as an elite 3-point shooter. Yet his consistency and career length have helped him to knock down more than 1,000 threes. Given how the Spurs struggled at times shooting from outside last season, his addition should help them significantly in that area.

Tobias Harris' reliably as a shooter can't be understated

San Antonio still made do despite the lack of shooting thanks to Wembanyama's off-ball gravity. San Antonio ranked among the NBA's best corner 3-point shooting teams last season, and that was due in large part to his gravity, rolling to the basket.

That forced opposing teams to leave the corner open to avoid giving up alley-oops to Wemby. That resulted in San Antonio garnering plenty of high-percentage 3-point looks.

Adding Harris to the mix gives San Antonio another shooter and could do wonders for their offense. Despite ranking fifth in offensive rating last season, their offense ground to a halt during the NBA Finals.

They never quite looked like themselves on that end of the floor against the New York Knicks, and that cost them a championship.

The Spurs needed another shooter to stabilize their offense

Having another veteran who can knock down shots will take pressure off of Wembanyama. It's not just 3-shooting either; he can score in other ways as well.

He is one of the more accurate mid-range shooters in the NBA and also can exploit mismatches in the post. Funny enough, his skill set is somewhat similar to Harrison Barnes.

Harris, like Barnes, was previously a small forward but scaled up to play the four. Both give San Antonio a reliable shooter who can also score in other ways.

For Barnes, it's his old man drive to the rim. For Harris, it's mid-range jumpers and post-ups. However, Harris will likely take Barnes' minutes and potentially join the second unit.

That may be the best spot for him, giving San Antonio more scoring punch off the bench when paired with Dylan Harper, Keldon Johnson, and Luke Kornet. Ultimately, Harris's track record as a 3-point shooter should make the Spurs better offensively. That should be music to Wembanyama's ears after what happened in the NBA Finals.
