The ultimate Spurs scrimmage with the most talented players in franchise history

The best NBA conversations/debates always have a mix of reality and fantasy. The question of who would win in all-time hypothetical matchups fuels us, because at the end of the day, basketball is a game, and we're here for fun.

Spurs Nation has enjoyed watching decades of stars make noise wearing silver and black in the never-ending odyssey of NBA fandom. So, what would the teams look like if we compiled some of the most talented of the bunch for a little scrimmage? And this isn't about championships, longevity, or legacy. We're talking skill for skill.

To keep things balanced, David Robinson and Tim Duncan will serve as the unofficial captains of the two all-time starting fives, with Victor Wembanyama already earning his place among the most gifted players to ever lace up his sneakers in the Alamo City.

Tony Parker vs. De'Aaron Fox

This would be an electric battle of a couple of the quickest guards we've ever seen with the basketball in their hands. Parker is battle-tested, coming out on top in the biggest games imaginable and his finishing ability as a guard is unmatched.

Fox is crazy, explosive as well, and can apply downhill pressure in a way few guards can. He's a matchup nightmare from the opening tip. These two will dictate the pace of the game as they both try to set their teams up for the rare easy buckets wherever they can find them.

George Gervin vs. Manu Ginobili

We're talking about Nas vs. Jay Z. Batman vs. Superman. Christopher Nolan vs. Quentin Tarantino. There is no right answer, and there's no wrong one. It's all a matter of perspective because both are astronomically great, and we would be spoiled to see such a matchup.

Gervin and Ginobili are both artists cut from the same cloth. They played the game with flair, power, finesse, and savvy. Gervin was as smooth as butter, and Manu was a creative genius. It'd be tough to predict who comes out on top. They were so different. But it'd be a treat for all of us, that's for sure.

Kawhi Leonard vs. Alvin Robertson

Robertson doesn't get as much love as he should because his era was so long ago, but he was a menace. We're talking about a guy who won Most Improved Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season. Robertson was a 6x steals champ and averaged 16 points a night during his Spurs tenure.

We all know Kawhi Leonard's feats. The vast majority of the fan base may despise the Klaw, but his greatness is undeniable. However, the two-time DPOY would have his hands full with Robertson guarding him on the other end. Neither player would have a great time on offense, and as Spurs fans, we love a defensive battle.

LaMarcus Aldridge vs. Tim Duncan

I was torn between LA and Dennis Rodman, but I said skill for skill, so Aldridge has to get the nod. The man scored 56 points without hitting a three-pointer. LaMarcus could give you buckets any which way, and his ability to knock down the midrange adds much-needed shooting and versatility to Team Robinson. (Plus Rodman and the Admiral didn't get along.)

Now, we do know who would win this matchup because we've seen it. One guy is the greatest power forward of all time, so it's not really fair for LA. But fairs are a place where you judge pigs and win prizes. It has no place on the basketball court. A prime Timmy D with this team would be downright sickening.

David Robinson vs. Victor Wembanyama

The Admiral vs. The Alien would be the headline battle here. Two athletic, game-changing centers from different eras. Wembanyama's skill set is unlike anything David ever faced, but the same is true on the other side.

Robinson had a unique combination of size, strength, and speed that modern centers don't possess. Between this and the Aldridge/Duncan matchups, the battle for paint control would be epic, must-see television.

Objectively, there's no real correct answer to this question. Team Robinson has elite shot creation, defense, and shotmaking, but Team Duncan has high IQ, speed, and Wemby's limitless ceiling. Plus they're no slouches on defense themselves. I might give the Big Fundamental's squad the edge but I could change my mind tomorrow.
