The Spurs can't do Keldon Johnson that dirty with this trade offer

There's no reason to do KJ like this.

With only one year remaining on his contract and no extension in sight, Keldon Johnson's time in San Antonio could be coming to an end. The Spurs' recent trip to the finals was fueled by star power and depth, but a roster crunch eventually claims cap casualties, so a KJ trade would be understandable.

But that doesn't mean the Spurs should accept any offer that gets him out the door. A new proposal from Fadeaway World would have SA send Johnson to Washington for Justin Champagnie and Bilal Coulibaly. This is one of those deals that makes perfect sense for the other side—less so for San Antonio, for several reasons.

Washington's return doesn't give the Spurs enough

Coulibaly showed some promise earlier in his career, but he's been unimpressive since. The third-year man from France is a wing player who can't shoot (32% 3PT) and has trouble staying on the floor. He's dealt with injuries every season that he's been in the league. He's been a starter for most of his career, and the return has been pedestrian at best.

While adding Justin Champagnie would probably be fun for his brother in San Antonio, it wouldn't move the needle very much on the floor. In four seasons in the league, Champagnie only shot well from distance once, and it wasn't even last year (32%). The Silver and Black don't need wing players who are athletic but can't space the court.

Inconsistency from the perimeter is one of the reasons KJ has been criticized during his time here, but he's coming off a better shooting season than both of those guys (36%). Above all, the Spurs don't have much playing time available for wings. They're all set at that position.

San Antonio has no reason to move Keldon just to move him

I'm all for depth, but San Antonio doesn't need to add players just for the sake of adding them. Not to mention, they shouldn't do Keldon like that. Big Body has been an ideal member of the organization for a long time.

Washington may be trying to turn it around, but they're doomed to fail because they don't know what they're doing. In all my years of watching basketball, that's a franchise that just always seems to get in its own way.

The Wizards are like that friend who doesn't believe in deodorant but wonders why he can't get a date, so he blames women. You still hang out with him occasionally because he's a nice enough guy most of the time and he means well, but you wouldn't let him date your sister.

Don't send Keldon Johnson there. That would be a little on the mean side.
