The end of mock draft season is upon us. At least this season's mock draft season. Is that too many seasons too quickly? Well, there are always too many mock drafts, but for you, I've gathered data from 40 of them published over the past two-plus months to determine the kind of prospects that the draft analysts believe the Spurs need.
Despite the wide variety of names, the consensus is pretty clear. The Spurs need physical front-line players who can defend and rebound, big men who can shoot, defend, and rebound, or perimeter players who can get buckets, especially from deep, to fill out their bench.
Fortunately, there are plenty of players in the 2026 Draft Class who fit those requirements.
Frontcourt prospects dominate recent Spurs projections
Spurs fans are locked into their team. They know San Antonio needs additional size, rebounding, and physicality to improve their frontcourt depth. Prospects mocked to the Spurs who fit those characteristics are:
Zuby Ejiofor
Yaxel Lendeborg
Henri Veesaar
Morez Johnson Jr.
Hannes Steinbach
Jayden Quaintance
Patrick Ngongba
A few of these guys are projected to be selected before San Antonio's 20th pick, so they'd have to find a trade partner if prospects like Yaxel Lendeborg or Morez Johnson Jr. really tickle their fancy. They wouldn't get many complaints from me if they wanted to package a few assets together to go grab Lendeborg. The kid is a stud at the power forward position, and his skill set fits their needs to a T.
But the more likely scenario is the Spurs hold their ground and select one of the players available to them. But if the board doesn't fall in their favor for the right big man, they can pivot to a wing that could give them some pop off the bench.
Wings with upside remain popular selection
Mitch Johnson shrank the rotation the deeper San Antonio traversed into the playoffs. He likely just didn't trust the bench guys to come in and give him positive minutes on the big stage. Whether that was a mistake or not, the Spurs could stand to add some scorers the coach will trust when he needs to reach deep into his bag of answers.
One of the wings in this class may fill that void, so let's look at the players mocked to the Spurs:
Karim Lopez
Cameron Carr
Chris Cenac Jr.
Allen Graves
Amari Allen
Koa Peat
Some of the standouts in this group can play the three or the four, while others can float between the two and the three. The more positions you can play in this era, the better. Coach Johnson needs players who can get hot and help get the Spurs out of offensive ruts or just help them bury their opponents when they have the lead. These are the prospects with the potential to do that.
This is a deep draft class, so San Antonio could do well by drafting the right guy from these groups. Chris Cenac Jr. has great upside, Zuby Ejiofor is a beast, and don't get me started on Lendeborg again. All they have to do is not mess it up.
