Stephon Castle may have just added a devastating new wrinkle to his game

Few players have bigger expectations heading into next season than San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle. Castle is a rising star and could very well make his first All-Star team next season.

Especially if he can implement a devastating new skill that he's been working on this summer. The offseason is rife with workout videos that usually get fan bases excited about next season. However, one video should catch Spurs fans' attention.

Castles is apparently working on his 3-point shooting, which already showed signs of improvement last season. More importantly, he's working more on shooting threes off the dribble, specifically after going around screens.

For all of the talk about Castle being a poor shooter, he has actually shown significant potential in that area.

He shot dramatically better from three over the second half of last season and in the playoffs. Castle was even a reliable mid-range threat. If he can shoot threes off the dribble, then that could be crucial for his development and make him a star.

Going from being a mediocre 3-point shooter to someone who can hit threes off the dribble would be quite the jump, but it's possible. For one, I don't believe he's as shaky of a shooter as many suspect.

Instead, he is streaky with ugly lows that surround sustained stretches of hot shooting. What's clear, however, is that he is steadily improving, and hitting threes off-the-dribble could eventually make him a superstar.

Even though teams assume he's going to drive, he still gets into the paint at will. Being able to dribble around screens and stop and pop from three could add a devastating new wrinkle to his game.

Teams wouldn't know whether he'd be turning the corner ready to get downhill and posterize some poor sap or launch from 25 feet.

Castle's 3-point shooting is the key to his rise to stardom

It's obvious that shooting is a swing skill for Castle, and he is well on his way to mastering it. Let's assume for a moment that he comes back next season and can reliably knock down threes—both spot-up and off the dribble.

That would be more than enough to take him from averaging 16.7 points per game last season to averaging over 20 points next season. Combine that with his elite defense, and he could be joining Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox as an All-Star.

Having Castle up his game and emerge as a star could be just what the Spurs need to win it all next season. That begins with him improving as a shooter, and he looks to be doing just that this summer.
