San Antonio's offseason wasn't anywhere close to as explosive as NBA insiders made it seem. Over the past year, the Spurs have pretty much been the epicenter of trade rumor central. There were so many potential scenarios swirling about the Silver and Black that the fans began to replace anticipation with apathy and exhaustion.

Spurs fans feel misled

We were told that draft day would bring some excitement as the Spurs were looking to move the 14th overall pick, but the only trade made sent the 38th pick to the Pacers. Not really a needle mover for the short term. Don't get me wrong; drafting Carter Bryant was a fantastic move. He's going to be a fantastic player for this franchise. I'm simply addressing the rumors vs what the reality was.

The next thing they told us was to expect San Antonio to go after players in free agency, linking the team to several guys, but only one move was made, and while it's a good move, it wasn't what fans were expecting.

There have been more than a few players rumored to be targets for SA, but almost none of it has come to fruition except for a De'Aaron Fox situation, which was pretty unique considering how quickly everything moved after Sacramento fired Mike Brown. That's what prompted Fox to demand a trade to San Antonio.

When the season ended, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before they moved on from some movable deals. With the stockpile of assets in their possession, this summer was the perfect time to strike. It's fair to note that the offseason isn't over. Brian Wright could still pull a rabbit out of a hat on us, but until he does, all the fans have are the endless rumors that have overtaken Spurs discourse.

Players the Spurs have been linked to via rumors

Lauri Markkanen
Kevin Durant
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Brook Lopez
Guerschon Yabusele
Trae Young
Darius Garland
Ryan Rollins
Ty Jerome
Cam Johnson
The list goes on...

There's been a lot of noise and not a whole lot of movement. San Antonio has been steadfast in their approach, and their actions are speaking loud and clear now that we're a week into free agency. This is the NBA, so things can change on a dime, but as things stand, it seems the Spurs are going to roll out a similar roster to last year's with just a few tweaks.

The consistent rumblings made it seem like the Silver and Black were going to revamp the roster. But it's nothing close to that kind of makeover. The goal is to build something sustainable. That's fine. Hopefully, the right players are in place to make that a reality. It wouldn't be the first time a sports organization had a plan that didn't work out. Being too aggressive can cost you, but so can being too patient.
