The Spurs have gotten a ton of respect this offseason. It hasn't all been sunshine and rainbows, but it's been pretty dang close. You can thank Brian Wright for that. Not overthinking the obvious decision to draft Dylan Harper was imperative, but following that up by selecting Carter Bryant has helped the perception of San Antonio's offseason.
In a new ESPN survey conducted by Jeremy Woo, 20 executives and scouts around the league were asked key questions about their expectations for this class, and the Silver and Black's picks were mentioned repeatedly.
Spurs Nation already had high hopes for the youngins coming in to make a name for themselves. These results only add fuel to an already blistering flame of excitement for the upcoming season and the prospective careers of the number two and 14 overall picks.
Some execs believe the Spurs could have the biggest steal & best pick
Cooper Flagg cleaned up for the most part when the Rookie of the Year predictions were made, but Harper still received a couple of votes. That's fair. He was the number one overall pick and supplanted D. Harp as the number one overall pick because of his decision to reclassify in high school. Flagg has been hyped up to be the next great player for a while now, and for good reason.
I have no complaints there, and am just happy to see the former Rutgers star get mentioned. The next question asked the responders to ignore the number one pick and predict who will be the draft's best pick. Interestingly enough, VJ Edgecomb received the most votes with 10, but Harper followed him up with six, and while they didn't reveal the number of votes CB landed, just know that he got at least one.
The next question asked the executives and scouts to predict the biggest steal of the draft. This is where Bryant shone the most, gaining five votes—the most for this question. The answers were much more split for this question, but he still ended up with more tallies than everyone else. Joan Beringer was second with four votes, so that just goes to show how many answers were given.
These results show that the league is very high on the young players San Antonio added to their roster. Just as high as fans are and in some cases, even higher (there are always haters, even in your own fan base). If those of us who believe these guys will reach their ceiling are right, it's a great problem to have. You can never have too many good players, no matter what they keep saying about De'Aaron Fox.
