Free agency begins today, and that means Milwaukee is on the clock, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN. If Spurs fans are wondering why the front office hasn't made any moves yet, it's apparently because they are waiting to see what happens with Giannis Antetokounmpo. Teams are expecting the Bucks to fail in their quest to add talent around the Greek Freak. If that happens, all bets are off on his future.
Teams like the Spurs, Heat, Rockets, and Knicks have stayed out of other major trades this offseason in hopes of potentially acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo, per @WindhorstESPN

Spurs are waiting to pounce on Giannis
That makes all the sense in the world. The Bucks are strapped. They don't have assets to trade, they don't have great contracts to move, and they're over the second apron as it is. That means, because of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, they are restricted from making normal trades other teams have available to them, as the only thing they should be trying to do is shed salary.
This puts them in a precarious situation because general managers around the league don't have to help them. I could easily see teams withholding trade options that would help the Bucks to force their hand in losing Giannis. Something similar is reportedly happening with the Lakers, who need a big man. Rival teams have been jacking up the price on any potential trade with LA because they know how badly they need it.
There haven't been any rumors indicating that's actually happening to Milwaukee, but I don't see why it wouldn't be the case. If Giannis hits the market, he would be the best player to be made available via trade since Kevin Durant when he left OKC almost a decade ago.
Here's the thing that's interesting to me. When the Spurs used both of their draft picks, everyone assumed that they were content with a slow burn back to competing for titles, but this report does not support that. If Windhorst is correct and SA is waiting for the Bucks franchise star to request a trade so they can go all in for him, they are trying to win a championship next season.
That's amazing news for Spurs Nation. There is no Western Conference team with a longer playoff drought than the Silver and Black. It's time for that to come to an end. Dylan Harper already made the proclamation that a return to the postseason is imminent, but adding Giannis would make it a foregone conclusion, even if that means trading away Harper to get the deal done, which I'm pretty sure the Bucks would demand.
That doesn't mean they'd get their wish, though. We just watched the Kevin Durant situation play out and Phoenix didn't get anything close to what they wanted. They didn't even send him to the best place for them. Durant had less leverage than Giannis would because he's in the prime of his career.
They'd get a haul, for sure, but what it looks like is still to be determined. I'm getting ahead of myself, but not by much. Free agency begins today, so Milwaukee will need to get started. It shouldn't take long before they realize they don't have many options. What happens after that is any man's guess, and San Antonio seems to be counting on that.
