Spurs’ offensive struggles are frustrating for a very annoying reason

The Spurs' massive win in primetime over the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night isn't a reason to ignore the issues the Spurs have encountered in 2026. Things haven't been so easy for this squad ever since their groundbreaking victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Christmas Day.

Since then, the second-place team has only managed a 9-9 record and appears to have diminished significantly. It's easy to be frustrated by this, and frankly, you should be.

The Spurs are better than this. With losses to the Utah Jazz, Memphis Grizzlies, and New Orleans Pelicans during this stretch, there is real reason to panic. These types of losses are unacceptable.

San Antonio has too much talent to be struggling

The most disappointing part is that this team is way too talented to be losing to weaker teams. There is no reason that a unit featuring Victor Wembanyama, De'Aaron Fox, and Stephon Castle should be losing to a team that has nearly 20 fewer wins.

With as much offensive skill as they have, there is absolutely no reason that they should score fewer than 100 points. All offseason, we clamored over this team for how much depth they have. Earlier in the season, this depth was showcased in an impressive way.

Players like Harrison Barnes and Julian Champagnie were lights out. Now, the supposed top-tier depth has become a weakness. We need to see more consistency from this squad; we know they have it in them.

Even more infuriating is that the Spurs are losing games even when their defense shows up. Just take a look at the recent Pelicans loss. Why is the success on the defensive end not translating to the offense? It is a conundrum that I have yet to figure out.

If you are going to bring that kind of effort to stopping the ball, then you should mirror it on the offensive side.

The Spurs have shot themselves in the foot with silly errors

The Spurs' struggles to play sound basketball were evident Wednesday night in Houston. Whether it is the boneheaded turnovers, defensive lapses, or brutal three-point shooting, they are making the mistakes of a sub-.500 team.

These issues have to fall on the coaching staff. They can easily rectify simple errors like these. Head Coach Mitch Johnson needs to rally his troops and emphasize the significance of maintaining focus throughout the regular season.

Something is obviously going on that has led to this talented squad playing poor basketball. It must be fixed in a hurry.
