The rumors are heating up.

According to veteran NBA journalist Sam Amick, San Antonio is a big player in the pursuit of potentially available all-star point guard De'Aaron Fox. While this is exciting news, with the trade deadline slightly over a month away, in his latest article, Amick also revealed that the interested teams believe that the Sacramento Kings are unlikely to trade Fox by February 6.

There was an 's' at the end of 'team' because, naturally, several suitors will be looking to add the services of such a dynamic player. Chief among them are the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers, with careful considerations for the Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets, who have yet to fully express interest but have been reportedly intrigued by the notion.

Fortunately, for those rooting for San Antonio to win the inevitable Fox Sweepstakes coming down the pike, they seem to be the most interested, according to Amick, who wrote, "Make no mistake, though: the Spurs noise is the loudest."

The Spurs have an advantage if they have heavy interest in most players

The Spurs gathered all those assets for moments such as these. If they identify a player they want and he becomes available, they have solid players with enticing contracts and draft picks in both rounds for years to come. The only other team with a treasure chest deeper than Brian Wright's is Sam Presti in Oklahoma City, but they have no use for Fox.

A recent concern emerged about the former Kentucky Wildcat when coach Mike Brown was fired. Speculation that Fox had something to do with the decision was beginning to run wild, but Amick contests that was not the case.

Fox also defended himself on social media when the rumors first began to surface that he would "push back" at Brown if the coach attempted to hold him accountable for mistakes.

It's hard to know exactly what happened without being in the building, but that's why front offices do their due diligence before bringing players in from anywhere. San Antonio is known for doing theirs, and if they're still this interested in Fox, it's likely because they believe those concerns are fabricated or overblown.

The Kings are fresh off a couple of wins following the six-game losing streak that led to the dismissal of Mike Brown. Fox was sensational last night, scoring 35 points on 13-16 against a shorthanded 76ers squad. Their previous win came against the Mavericks, who were also missing their superstar Luka Doncic.

It's a step in the right direction for a team that still hopes to turn their season around, but again, they won those games against compromised competition. They are ranked eighth in strength-of-schedule in January.

With a record of 15-19, this is a make-or-break month for them, and if it goes off the rails, the decision to trade Fox by the deadline could be revisited. Because it's the NBA, where amazing happens.
