With over half the season complete and the team back from their week-long trip to Paris, the San Antonio Spurs will return to action on Wednesday night at the Frost Bank Center as they welcome the LA Clippers to town. As they get ready to do so, there have been multiple notable news bits to break recently concerning the Spurs. Outside of the rumors concerning De'Aaron Fox, these are the newest team news items.
Updated regular season schedule
Back in the earlier part of this month, wildfires raged out of control in the hills surrounding Los Angeles. With many losing their homes in what became the largest fire in the city's history, it was a challenging time for many Angelenos. The NBA opted to postpone multiple games that were set to be played both at Intuit Dome and Crypto.com Arena as a result, including the Spurs' matchup with the Lakers that was originally set to take place on January 11.
Now, the league has officially re-scheduled the games that were postponed. San Antonio will now return to Los Angeles to play the Lakers on March 17 at 9:30 PM CT. As for the Spurs' home game against the Orlando Magic that was originally to take place on March 17, that game has been moved to April 1 at 7:00 PM CT. San Antonio will now have a back to back on April 1 and 2, in addition to a three-games-in-four-nights scenario that week.
Wemby and Castle named to Rising Stars roster
The NBA officially announced the rosters for the annual Rising Stars game this week. The contest, played during the All-Star break, features some of the brightest young talent in the league playing in either their rookie or second season. Headlining the roster for the Rising Stars game was none other than Victor Wembanyama.
Also honored with a selection to the Rising Stars team was Stephon Castle, who is enjoying a spectacular rookie campaign in San Antonio. Both of the Spurs' young stars will have a chance to show off their skill on a national stage on Friday night during All-Star weekend.
Castle back to the top of NBA ROY ladder
The race for Rookie of the Year in the NBA this year has been a total crapshoot. There is no clear winner as of yet, with multiple guys still deserving of being in the conversation. But in the NBA's official ROY rankings released on Wednesday, Stephon Castle has re-claimed the top spot.
On the NBA's official website, Steve Aschburner writes: (Castle) has not been very efficient lately, but the Spurs guard perked up in their second game in Paris. And he confirmed on TNT Tuesday that he’s competing in the 2025 AT&T Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend. For the record, Castle has dunked 27 times this season and his most showy effort came on Christmas, ranking 29th on NBA.com’s Dunk Score metric.
