I know Spurs are mildly disappointed that the fellas aren't going to sweep the Thunder, but we always knew that was a tall mountain to climb. We're going to pull the good from the ugly blowout we were just forced to watch. Victor Wembanyama has once again responded to the allegations of Chet Holmgren being his equal with an emphatic rejection that should shut down any more noise.
Here's Exhibit Q on why y'all need to stop comparing Chet to Wemby. Wembanyama can completely obliterate Holmgren. Holmgren struggles to get his shot off against Vic. They are not the same. https://t.co/uI6drmcijy

This was only San Antonio's second possession of the game, and Wemby detonated on Chet like a nuclear missile. It was a resounding statement. "This guy is not on my level. Stop comparing us." It was as clear as day as he went at him again on the following possession, scoring again with relative ease. When OKC's 7'1" third wheel tried to respond, it looked laughably bad.
Why is no one talking about Wemby getting "punked" right now or looking "scared" or "soft" as OKC has owned the paint on him and Jaylin Williams just hit a dirk fade? Perhaps because it is ridiculous. Double standards when compared to Chet's coverage.

Somehow, we still get ridiculous comments like this, but the truth of this matchup is as clear as the waters on a Fiji beach shoreline. Wemby can do things to Holmgren that Chet couldn't dream of. He struggles to even get his shot off against the French Alien. As if how it looks isn't bad enough, the numbers are even worse.
Wembanyama blocks Chet out like the sun
Let's just take the four games they've played this season. Victor is putting up 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists on 51% FG and 67% 3PT. He has a total of +33 in plus/minus with an average of +8.3. Not to mention, he's only playing 24 minutes a night. We've barely gotten a chance to see the full Wembanyama unleashed in this matchup.
On the Thunder's side, Chet's only giving us 11 points a game. To his credit, he's pulling down 8 boards and blocking 1.5 shots, too, but that's not anything that Vic isn't doing. His efficiency numbers are also in the dirt against the Spurs. He's shooting 39% FG and 20% 3PT. He's a -16 over four meetings for an average of -4. Not even in the same ballpark.
When they last met in the first few games, the Thunder center barely even guarded Wemby. It was almost an admission that he couldn't do anything with the Spurs' superstar. This time, they opted to start the game with Chet matched up, and he got utterly dominated. Now, we know why Mark Daigneault would rather not give out that assignment.
It's so funny to listen to the broadcasters suggest that Holmgren should get more aggressive, encouraging him to take the fight back to Wembanyama. He's incapable of doing that. It's not even his fault. That's what an extraterrestrial basketball player is supposed to do to guys.
Vic is taller, longer, faster, and stronger than Chet. He's a better finisher; he has a better midrange pull-up game, his handles are better, and his defensive instincts are miles ahead. I know the younger generation will say that I'm "glazing" (such a stupid term) Wemby right now, but we have to call this matchup as we see it. It's no contest. So let's finally stop acting like they're anything close to equal.
