The NBA regular season isn't over, and already the San Antonio Spurs have wildly exceeded expectations. It wasn't that long ago that so-called NBA analysts, including ESPN, were predicting the Spurs to win about 40 games.

They foolishly predicted the Spurs would win just 41 games this season, but San Antonio is on pace to win 60 for the first time in eight years. Not only that, but they could very well finish with the second-best record in the NBA this season.

That underscores a remarkable turnaround this team has undergone. Just two seasons ago they were 22-60 and on their way to drafting in the top five for a second straight year.

ESPN was dead-wrong about the Spurs this season

The Silver and Black had an encouraging 14-win improvement last season but were still 30 games below .500. Thanks to more lottery luck, they were gifted the second overall pick and drafted Dylan Harper.

Him paired with star De'Aaron Fox, who barely played for the team last season, and the addition of Luke Kornet has helped spur a big turnaround. Then, of course, there is superstar Victor Wembanyama.

His dominance on both ends of the floor has made him an MVP candidate and a shoo-in for All-NBA and Defensive Player of the Year honors. That assumes he is able to meet the NBA's 65-game threshold.

The results have been both obvious and impressive, with San Antonio steamrolling their way through the NBA.

The Spurs are proving doubters wrong with every win

San Antonio has gone 23-2 since February 1st, solidifying themselves as a dominant team. In fact, they appear to be among the four true title contenders in the NBA alongside the Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons, and Boston Celtics.

What sets the Silver and Black apart from those teams is that they will likely have home court against the Pistons and Celtics. They have also dominated the Thunder, winning the season series 4-1.

The playoffs are a different beast, and anything can happen in a series against those teams. Still, ESPN predicted that the Spurs would miss the playoffs for a seventh straight year. That shows how much they know.

Instead, San Antonio has already won 53 games and counting thus far. And with every passing win, they continue to prove ESPN and the NBA wrong.
