The San Antonio Spurs will return to action on Saturday against the Portland Trail Blazers. It will be the final contest of a three-game homestand for San Antonio, and the Spurs will look to pick up their second consecutive victory after defeating the Atlanta Hawks in a high-scoring affair in overtime on Saturday.
Earning wins over the bottom-dwellers of the league like the Trail Blazers should be a massive priority for Victor Wembanyama and company. After we saw Wemby put up 42 points to defeat Atlanta on Thursday, it seems he in particular is more than up to the challenge.
Last time out was actually San Antonio's first game with a full roster this season, and that circumstance made a few things evident, even to the casual viewer. The Spurs are going to need more high-level, consistent play from their backup bigs if they are to have a chance to become a true winner in the short or long-term.
Chris Paul has emphasized that this team needs to realize they can win now, not just down the road. Now that they are in a better place injury-wise, San Antonio can focus on improving the quality of their nightly output.
Is Tre Jones playing against the Trail Blazers?
Tre Jones is not on the injury report for Saturday and is expected to play against the Trail Blazers. He missed six straight games from December 3 to December 15 with a left shoulder sprain. After returning in the Spurs' last game on Thursday, it does not look like the training staff will hold him out for any type of injury management, and he should be good to go as usual.
