By now, the rampant rumors of the San Antonio Spurs trading for superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo have died down, but they may soon be resurrected. The Bucks and Giannis appear to be headed for an ugly divorce this summer.

Thus, Milwaukee is probably hoping teams such as the Spurs and Houston Rockets fall flat in the NBA playoffs. In that scenario, both teams may be forced to reconsider their stance on not trading for him.

It would give the Bucks two other teams to pit against each other to drive up his price. Odds are, the Spurs won't have much interest in a bidding war or even Giannis himself after they won 62 games without him.

However, there is one scenario where the Silver and Black reconsider trading for the Greek Freak.

There's only one scenario where Spurs trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo

The only way a Giannis trade would make sense for the Spurs would be if they could trade De'Aaron Fox, Carter Bryant, and three first-round picks for him. I doubt the Bucks would be interested in that deal unless they don't want to completely rebuild.

Then again, that would be a much stronger package than what the New York Knicks could offer. Adding Giannis for those two players would undeniably make the Spurs much better.

However, it would force them to dramatically adjust how they play. That might make their ceiling higher but also make the silver and black more expensive faster too.

It would also take away a lot of their future flexibility by moving Bryant and three firsts. Odds are, barring a complete disaster in the playoffs, the Spurs wouldn't trade for Giannis unless this specific deal materialized.

The Spurs shouldn't change strategy by trading for Giannis

San Antonio may be better off in the long run staying the course. As is, they could have four chances to win a championship with their core of Victor Wembanyama, Fox, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper.

They might still have that window with Giannis, but it's hard to see the team making a major trade when they won 62 games and counting this season. The best-case scenario involving Giannis and the Spurs is that he actually gets traded to another team in the East, such as the Knicks or Miami Heat.

That would be great for the Silver and Black, who wouldn't have a rival Western Conference team get better by adding him. With San Antonio already a legit contender with a talented young core, they shouldn't reconsider trading for Giannis unless he's available for pennies on the dollar.

That's unlikely to happen, so they should stay on course, which could possibly lead to a championship.
