Bleacher Report just compiled a list of the 10 most overrated players in the NBA, and guess who made the cut? After his play in the NBA Finals, San Antonio Spurs fans likely won't have any issue with Fox being considered overrated.
It's the truth at the moment with him playing far below the level of a max player when the Spurs needed him the most. In his defense, he was injured during the NBA Finals.
Still, his performance last season and even the playoffs was far below the level he played at when he was with the Sacramento Kings.

Hopefully Fox will take the criticism he has received this summer and channel it into an epic bounce-back season. Even then, it doesn't change the fact that he is currently overrated and certainly overpaid.
The only way to change that is if he plays closer to the peak Kings version of himself in San Antonio. It's not just the scoring that San Antonio could use; it's Fox's elite speed that could break down defenses.
Unfortunately, he hasn't been that player, even during the regular season with the Spurs. If Fox is back to being the fastest player in the NBA next season, then it makes San Antonio that much harder to stop.
That's a scary thought since San Antonio ranked fourth in offensive rating last season. Even with their second-best player not playing anywhere near his best.

The criticism surrounding his play in the playoffs is perfectly valid, as is the criticism surrounding his max contract. Despite that, he can still be the player San Antonio needs him to be next season.
If he comes out motivated and ready to quiet critics, then San Antonio could be the NBA's most dangerous team. In fact, I'd argue that Fox improving may be the biggest potential difference between last season's team and next year's team.
Fox averaged just 18.8 points in 2025-26. But if he can up his scoring to around 21 points per game and be far more consistent, San Antonio's offense becomes much more lethal.
Combine that with their already stingy defense and the Spurs could be far better next season. However, that starts with Fox proving skeptical Spurs fans and Bleacher Report wrong.
