The Spurs are in the midst of what could be a Western Conference Finals series that goes all the way to seven games. It's been a back-and-forth affair with San Antonio stealing Game 1 on the road and the Thunder responding with a win in Game 2.

Regardless of the outcome of this series, it's important to understand that the Spurs are still in the early stages of the Victor Wembanyama era. This is just year three, and while we're excited about a potential championship run this season, we need to put things into context. San Antonio still has a long time here to figure things out.

There are many possible outcomes. The Spurs can lose this series or get to the NBA Finals, and from there they can walk away with a championship or not. Regardless of what happens, fans should view this season as nothing less than a success.

How should fans react if the Spurs lose in the West Finals to OKC?

The first two matchups of this series have been interesting so far. The Spurs won in a double-overtime thriller in Game 1, and the Thunder tied the series up in Game 2. Both came down to the wire, so it's safe to say that this can go either way.

If the Spurs go on to lose this series, it's important for Spurs fans not to panic. Yes, they would fall short of their ultimate goal, but one thing we have to remember is that San Antonio still completely subverted expectations. Some knew they'd be good this season, but not Western Conference Finals good.

Any situation where you have a young core and jump from missing the postseason in the prior year to going all the way to the conference championship is a massive win for a franchise. Sure, a loss to the Thunder would signal some areas for improvement, but the Spurs faithful should still see it as a sign of even better things to come.

Additionally, players like Stephon Castle, Victor Wembanyama, Dylan Harper, and others can take the lessons they learned from a Conference Finals loss and apply them to next season. Think about it, is there any better way to develop young talent than putting them through a situation like this?

How should Spurs fans should react if they reach the NBA Finals?

Now, there is still a really good chance that San Antonio walks out of this fight with OKC victorious. As we've seen in the first two games, they aren't outmatched, keeping things tight without De'Aaron Fox.

Let's run through our first hypothetical. If the Spurs reach the NBA Finals and lose, the conversation is the same as if they lose in the Western Conference Finals. They still significantly exceeded expectations and gave a glimpse into a bright future. Any deep playoff run for a team making its first appearance on that stage is a win.

Now, if San Antonio pulls off a complete championship run, it's time for fans to get even more imaginative about the long-term possibilities. Dynasty conversations will get fired up, and rightfully so. The NBA hasn't had a team that dominated an entire era since the Warriors, and with the Spurs' young talent, they can be the next to do it.

Longevity is obviously the most important attribute of a dynasty. There's nothing that can guarantee longevity more than having a young core of talented players who have proven they can win at the highest level.

Big picture, Spurs fans should walk away from this season satisfied with any result at this point. They silenced doubters all year long and gave us a glimpse into a bright future.
