The San Antonio Spurs are once again watching the NBA playoffs from home this spring. An improved regular season this year brought the Spurs faithful some hope for the future and the expectation of continued improvement over time. The injection of veterans onto this roster changed the trajectory of this young core, without a question.

But even after a 34-48 season, marking their most wins since the 2021-22 year, the Spurs are still behind where they would like to be. The Western Conference is unbelievably competitive, and any problem this team encountered was magnified by their overall youth and inexperience. That made the loss of Victor Wembanyama for the season back in February a near-instant death sentence for this team.

As San Antonio looks to the offseason with the knowledge that Wembanyama will be returning in due time, they will unquestionably be looking around for slam-dunk moves they can make to make this roster a true contender in the West. We already know based on the De'Aaron Fox acquisition that the Spurs are becoming a preferred destination for important players due to the talent of Wemby.

So what is the biggest splash the Spurs could reasonably hope to make? Call me crazy, but there could be a reality where the Spurs make a trade offer the Milwaukee Bucks can't resist, and do the unthinkable in pairing Giannis Antetokounmpo alongside Wembanyama.

Spurs should make a run at Giannis Antetokounmpo if Bucks get bounced

Why would this be considered as a possibility now, with the playoffs in full swing? Well, if we consider the Bucks' current situation, it is not hard to surmise we could see several teams make their bids for Giannis in the near future.

As of this writing, Milwaukee sits 0-2 in their series against the Indiana Pacers. All signs are pointing to the Bucks being bounced in the first round, and especially if their elimination comes in a sweep, many will be looking at Antetokounmpo with baited breath, waiting for what he wants to do next.

If Milwaukee falls to Indiana, it will mark their third consecutive loss in the first round of the playoffs. Giannis has been as patient with the Bucks' management as anyone could have expected, but no one would be surprised to see him ask for a trade if this scenario unfolds.

All this leads us to what would be a total dream scenario for the Spurs. A disgruntled Antetokounmpo may be willing to join forces with Wembanyama, and pairing those two together would create a fearsome duo that would have the rest of the association positively trembling. If the Bucks get swept, San Antonio may want to start making preparations for their pitch to Milwaukee immediately.
