This is just the way I like it.

Apparently, rival executives expect the Spurs to explore options surrounding the number two overall selection they were awarded in the NBA Draft Lottery. That's a very different report than the recent one from Jonathan Givony, who stated that he was 99.9% sure that San Antonio would be drafting Dylan Harper based on what he was hearing.

This new report makes sense when you consider the secretive nature of this franchise. Nobody ever really knows what the Spurs are going to do until they do it, unless the pick is as obvious as a Victor Wembanyama. There was absolutely nothing any team could have offered to get Brian Wright to give up the opportunity to add a generational talent with GOAT potential to the team.

Harper is the consensus number two pick with potential to be a multi-time all-star, but he's not Wembanyama, making SA's intentions less clear. The word "timeline" has been thrown around a lot since Vic's arrival, but it's never been more important than it is this offseason.

Landing the No. 2 pick opened the door for unseen possibilities for Spurs

The two most popular names in the trade rumor mill are Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant, but what if something unexpected happens? Every now and then, there's what used to be referred to as a Woj Bomb, where a move nobody saw coming materializes seemingly out of nowhere. When you have the number of assets San Antonio has, that possibility is on the board.

What if they called the Miami Heat and caught Pat Riley in a good mood? Maybe they'd offer Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, Malaki Branham, the 2025 number two overall pick, the 2028 first-round pick swap from Boston, and some second-round picks for Bam Adebayo.

Now, there's no indication that Bam is on the market, but that doesn't mean that the right deal couldn't get him out of South Beach. The Heat have a bad habit of handing out bad contracts to underserving players, and they need help to reset their fortunes. A start from scratch would be good for them, but they'd get a head start if San Antonio gave them the number two pick.

Riley isn't really known for trading players for draft picks, nor is he one to admit defeat and rebuild, but Miami's situation is one of extreme mediocrity. It's one of the worst places to be as a franchise. They don't have the assets to make major improvements because their draft picks aren't that valuable, and they don't own anyone else's, plus the contracts they give to those players make them undesirable trade pieces.

The Spurs could help them out of a sticky situation and form possibly the greatest defensive duo the NBA has ever seen in the process. The thought of putting Bam next to Wembanyama should make Spurs Nation salivate, even if it is a pipe dream. But it doesn't have to be Miami's centerpiece. It could be anyone from anywhere, because all options are on the table. So, prepare yourselves for the chaos.
