Spurs can reunite with former star in proposed blockbuster De'Aaron Fox trade

San Antonio Spurs training camp is just weeks away, but Bleacher Report just pitched an intriguing De'Aaron Fox trade proposal. Fox has been the subject of trade rumors all summer, but the Spurs haven't seemed interested in dealing him.

However, if he has a strong start next season, he could regain a lot of his trade value. That is where the New Orleans Pelicans potentially come in. They have several good players stuck on a bad team that contenders such as the Spurs could use, including former Spur DeJounte Murray.

Bleacher Report's Spurs trade would send De'Aaron Fox to the Pelicans

Bleacher Report's proposed trade would send Fox, Luke Kornet, two first-round picks, two pick swaps, and three seconds to the Pels. In exchange, the Spurs would receive Trey Murphy III and reunite with Dejounte Murray.

At first glance, that would be a costly trade for the Spurs, but Bleacher Report might be on to something--sort of. San Antonio should already be interested in Murphy III given that he is an efficient scoring wing who can knock down threes on high volume.

He is also an athletic finisher at the rim and can even hold his own defensively. If the Silver and Black could get off Fox's contract and add Murphy III, that would seemingly be a smart move. However, that is only part of the trade, with Murray and Kornet also being a part of the proposed deal.

Would the Spurs and Pelicans agree to the trade?

Murray hasn't been the same since leaving San Antonio, especially after having two major injuries. However, having him as a backup point guard, albeit an expensive one, could help the Spurs. Not to mention, the trade would pave the way for Dylan Harper to start.

He has two seasons left on his deal, as opposed to Fox, who has five. Keeping him around for a couple of seasons would be far cheaper long-term. That is certainly fine, but my biggest issue with the deal would be the Silver and Black giving up Kornet.

If the deal included Fox, Harrison Barnes, Jordan McLaughlin, and picks for Murphy III and Murray, it would be far better for San Antonio. As is, the Spurs will probably say no to that deal, while the Pelicans might be open to making that move.

Of course, if San Antonio can hold on to Kornet and instead include Barnes and McLaughlin, then they might be willing to move on from Fox and his massive contract and reunite with Murray. Especially if it means they can add Murphy III.

Barring that, however, Bleacher Report's proposed deal seems highly unlikely to happen.
