This season, the Spurs have looked every bit like a championship contender. They have earned their second-place standing in the Western Conference and don't look like they'll give it away anytime soon. Despite that, one glaring issue must be solved if they want to stay where they are.

The Spurs have hit an offensive roadblock recently, and with the trade deadline just a few weeks away, now is the perfect time to address the issue. In particular, San Antonio has brutally struggled to knock down threes. A common worry before the season has fleshed out into an outright problem. But fear not, help is on the way.

Three-point specialists the Spurs must target at the trade deadline

With three-point shooting becoming much more of a commonality in the year 2026, there is a breadth of snipers across the NBA that are available for trade. Among the tanking teams in the league, you can spot a handful of guys who would make an immediate impact for the Spurs. Luckily for you, I have come prepared.

Kicking off the list is a two-time NBA champion and someone who filled the three-point shooting role for two trophy-winning squads. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was crucial for the Denver Nuggets in 2023 and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020. While things haven't gone as well for the veteran recently, it is likely he just needs to find a new situation that fits his game.

KCP performed exceptionally well alongside Nikola Jokic in Denver, which is what earned him the massive contract in Orlando. But, without a true playmaker, he fell off the rails. However, in San Antonio, he will have multiple guys who can feed him open shots. With his value at ground level, now would be the time to buy low.

Another player who has proven that they can drain it from three is Chicago Bulls guard Kevin Huerter. The 8th-year man has shot 37% from beyond the arc over his career and has made a name for himself with his prolific three-point shooting. Yet the Maryland alum is shooting a career-worst 30.7% this season. Still, there is no doubt in my mind that the known sniper would turn it around in silver and black.

Taking the opposite approach, the Spurs could throw a dart at a shooter who hasn't found his footing thus far in his career. Jordan Hawkins was electric for the championship-winning UConn Huskies. His jump shot is as pure as can be, but it has struggled to translate to the NBA. Perhaps the Pelicans are to blame.

If New Orleans continues to refuse trades for Trey Murphy III or Herb Jones, two of Spurs fans' favorite trade targets, Hawkins could be an excellent consolation prize. With better coaching and an improved surrounding cast, San Antonio could flip the current 30% three-point shooter into one who can perform on a championship-level roster.

No matter which direction you look, three-point shooting is out there for the taking, and the Spurs must grab it. San Antonio has no time to waste; we can't keep watching this team brick threes all game long. Each of these options would help shore up the Silver and Black's biggest weakness for the price of nothing. Brian Wright, go get it done.
