Maybe the connection is still there.

ESPN insider Shams Charania went on Pat McAfee and casually revealed that the Spurs and Kevin Durant shared mutual interest at the trade deadline. There were nothing but rumors at the time, but now we have official confirmation. That changes things when looking at what San Antonio might do this summer.

Shams said he expects this summer to be "the most craziest ever." We'll excuse his grammar there. We get the point. If his assertion is correct, the NBA community should rejoice. The offseason is usually a time of excitement as teams retool and major pieces are moved, but last summer was rather tame. It sounds like excitement is back on the menu, and the Spurs are going to dinner.

The Suns would need to be reasonable with the Spurs

Kevin Durant would be awesome in a silver and black uniform. Victor Wembanyama would get a chance to play next to a player he grew up idolizing. That's just cool, man. The on-court effect would be even cooler. We're always talking about how much space the team doesn't afford the Alien, but Durant would change that immediately.

Durantula is still a prolific scorer, and defenses would be foolish to leave him open. He shot 53% from the field and 43% from deep. With that being said, he'll be 37 years old by the time the season starts. He's only played over 65 games once in the last seven seasons. Phoenix reportedly wants several first-round picks in a KD trade, but they need to be reasonable.

You can get the 14th pick in this draft, but you can't have the number two pick. I'd add one more first-round pick and a couple of players to sweeten that deal, but I'm not giving three or more first-round picks plus multiple young talents for an aging star who has had trouble staying on the court.

Brian Wright has received criticism for not being aggressive enough, but he's been patient. There was no reason for the Spurs to be too good, too fast, but it's time to start revving the engine. We know that because of the number of assets in San Antonio's possession, they're going to be involved in a ton of trade rumors. Many roads to prosperity go through San Antonio.

But this is different. This is confirmation of mutual interest, which increases the prospect of it actually happening when the Spurs are ready to make their moves. That time is now.
