The San Antonio Spurs lost to the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals, and Victor Wembanyama fully embraced his villain arc in the final game. From the non-call on a clear landing space violation to his postgame shot at the media, Wemby clearly has no problem being the one fans are cheering against. The 22-year-old got to the NBA Finals before anyone expected, but his lack of experience and maturity were on full display.

Wembanyama became the face of the NBA in these playoffs. It was clear when they refused to even call a foul on his landing space violation. The NBA would have been forced to upgrade it to a flagrant and suspend Wemby for Game 6. That wasn’t happening if the officiating crew didn’t call a foul. It set social media ablaze and had everyone thinking the referees were on the Spurs' side. Still, that wasn’t enough.

Jalen Brunson and the Knicks dominated the fourth quarter in this series to win the championship. The 7’4 big man appeared to wear down late and let his emotions get the best of him. It happened again at the close of his Game 5 press conference.

Victor Wembanyama embraces being the villain after NBA Finals defeat

Wemby talked about the loss and his desire to get back to the NBA Finals in his postgame press conference, but the ending of saying he’d see the media never just further showed his immaturity.

Wembanyama was upset about the Spurs' loss. The emotions were raw just minutes after the game, but San Antonio lost because of his lack of experience and inability to control his emotions. Wemby scored 7.8 points per game in the fourth quarter of the NBA Finals on 34.3 percent shooting from the field and 25.0 percent from 3-point range. The Spurs can’t win with their best player being that inefficient late.

Wemby was beloved going into the playoffs. Everyone was looking at him as the future face of the NBA. The superstar of stars. He vanquished the defending champion Thunder, who were a team fans loved to root against. Everything was heading toward Wemby being the hero, but the 7’4 big man flipped it in on everyone.

He nearly got suspended for accumulating too many flagrant fouls in the playoffs. Fans pointed out several dirty plays throughout the Spurs' run. Wembanyama was cocky about a Spurs comeback in the NBA Finals after they did it against OKC. Then, he ended it by saying he’d never see the media again. Wemby wants to be the villain, and lots of fans will be rooting against him after how things ended.

This was just the beginning for the Spurs. Dylan Harper proved he’s a star in these playoffs. Stephon Castle transformed into an elite two-way force. Devin Vassell and Julian Champagnie ended the doubts about their playoff shot-making and defense. This is a young group ready to contend for years to come.

Wemby is the leader. He must learn to control his emotions and be the best player late. Getting too high and too low is draining. The NBA playoffs are a two-month grind. Wembanyama wore down, and the Knicks took advantage.

The Alien will see the media plenty, despite his claims. The Spurs will enter next season as the favorites to win the West, and the 7’4 big man will be the top name for MVP. He may already be the world’s best player. Spurs fans will be rooting for him, but everyone else may be cheering for his downfall.

Victor Wembanyama embraced his villain arc after the San Antonio Spurs loss to the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals. He committed another flagrant foul in Game 5 that went uncalled and poked fun at the media after the game. Wemby quickly went from fan favorite to villain. This is what the French big man wants. Everyone doubted the Spurs this year. Wembanyama wants to keep it going, and his final press conference did just that.
