If the Phoenix Suns end up deciding to shake up their roster, a Devin Booker trade could be the San Antonio Spurs’ perfect solution to their looming Dylan Harper problem. The Spurs are projected to select Harper with the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, but adding him would give them a backcourt rotation of De’Aaron Fox, Castle, and the second-overall pick—three guys who are less-than-stellar three-point shooters.

By trading the second-overall pick for Booker, they would not only add an NBA superstar to their lineup next to Victor Wembanyama, but it would prevent them from bringing another subpar shooter into the rotation.

That is if the Suns are interested.

Would the Suns and Spurs make a Devin Booker trade?

By all accounts, the Suns don’t seem eager to trade Booker. And seems as though he wants to stay in Phoenix for the rest of his career.

However, it may be smarter for the Suns to consider trading Booker and entering a full-on rebuild, especially since Kevin Durant already has two feet, two arms, and everything but the same big toe that cost him a conference finals birth two years ago out the door of PHX Arena.

So, while a Booker trade may seem unlikely right now, the Spurs have an absolutely perfect package to offer the Suns. San Antonio’s need for three-point shooting around the rest of its roster would make them an ideal landing spot for Booker.

Here’s what a potential trade could look like:

Spurs receive: Devin Booker

Suns receive: Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes, No. 2 pick, No. 14 pick, Two future first-round picks

The number of picks involved in the deal can be toggled with, but this general framework could be a good idea for both sides.

Adding Booker to the Spurs’ lineup next to Fox, Castle, and Victor Wembanyama would give them one of the best teams in the league. They would be able to compete for championships right away while also establishing a long-term core.

On the flip side, the Suns would get almost the exact same thing—the chance to reshape their long-term core.

Rather than spending the next few years trying to find a way to build around Booker, they could place Harper at the center of their organization. He and Devin Vassell could lead the Suns forward, alongside whatever other young pieces or rookies they get in the Booker and Durant deals.

Though they still wouldn’t own their own draft picks, the Suns would have a fresh start.
