The San Antonio Spurs had their largest playoff comeback in 14 years to win Game 4 over the Portland Trail Blazers 114-93, and De’Aaron Fox played a massive role. He went for 28 points, seven assists, six rebounds, one steal, and two blocks on Sunday afternoon. This was one game after fans thought Dylan Harper might be taking his job. The rookie had just three points with Fox shining as the Spurs took command of this series.
There has been plenty of chatter after Fox signed a max extension with the Spurs. San Antonio has Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, and Harper to build around. All three are on rookie contracts and give San Antonio arguably the brightest future in the NBA. Fans questioned trading for Fox and paying him like a superstar, but this was the right move. They need someone comfortable being the number three and taking over when necessary.
The Spurs' defense was swarming in the second half against the Blazers, but they need an offensive boost. Castle was in foul trouble, and Wemby was on a strict minute plan. San Antonio needed Fox, and the All-Star guard delivered.
De’Aaron Fox just dunked on all his critics in Game 4
The Spurs have unmatched guard talent. Castle and Harper are future stars. They have shown plenty of flashes, but the consistency isn’t always there. Castle had 16 points and eight dimes on Sunday afternoon, but he was struggling with foul issues. They needed a veteran option that has been here before. Luckily, the Spurs traded for just that player.
Castle and Harper don’t have it going so De’Aaron Fox takes control. This is the dude we’ve seen most of the season.

What a response game from De’Aaron Fox. This is the best he’s looked in the playoffs.

Absolutely frying the Blazers in the 2nd half:
The hate has gone too far. Fox is elite. He had 28 points on 11 of 17 shooting from the field on the road in the playoffs. This was a swing game in the series. The Blazers came out strong and looked ready to even things up. It was Fox that answered in the second half to put San Antonio up 3-1. Now, the series feels over.
Castle and Harper will have monster games. The future is bright, but Fox will play a key role if the Spurs are going to win the championship this year. He did on Sunday afternoon. It was his best game of the playoffs, and the Spurs need more of that to keep advancing.
San Antonio Spurs fans questioning De’Aaron Fox’s place on the team and the trade for him were silenced in Game 4. The 28-year-old led the team in scoring and was a central figure in the win. They needed Fox to step up, and he delivered as the young guards had issues. That is exactly why they made the trade. Credit to the Spurs for nailing another one.
Fans can hate all they want. San Antonio knew what they were doing with the Fox trade. It paid dividends in this series and will continue to be massive. So put it down at your own risk.
