Ridiculous fan-made Castle/Fox conflict forgets one critical point

These are teammates, guys.

So, remember how Stephon Castle said, "I'm coming for De'Aaron Fox's job because I can do things that he can't"? Of course, you don't because he never said that, and he never would. These are teammates. Some Spurs fans seem to be forgetting that, as they pit the two against each other in the silliest ways imaginable.

Why does a post like that have so many likes? I'm baffled by it. The benefit of having several good players on your team is they can all do different things at a high level that lead to wins, and winning is the goal. There are a bevy of teams who are jealous of San Antonio's embarrassment of riches, and yet there are fans out in the social media streets acting like they'd rather one of these guys be gone.

The Spurs are better for having both players

I shouldn't have to break this down for the "Castle over Fox" crowd, but since they exist, here we go. Once Swipa gets healthy, these two will start together. That means playing next to each other and feeding off one another to the detriment of opposing defenses. I, for one, am ecstatic about watching them develop a strong partnership this year.

Don't get me wrong. I know I'm not the only one; the majority of Spurs Nation is likely with me on this. Castle and Fox will both bring something special to the table. Depending on how quickly Castle and Dylan Harper develop, the Silver and Black could be sitting on a Big 4 they're barely paying since three guys are on rookie deals.

Even when they pay Victor Wembanyama, the group would be considered a bargain due to the expected production of those two young budding star guards. And who is to say that Fox can't make that pass? When is the last time he had a 7'5" extraterrestrial with an 8'0" wingspan to throw lobs to? The first of Neveruary. That's not a benefit he's ever had the pleasure of taking advantage of before.

But regardless of that specific play, this is De'Aaron Fox. He's a former all-star, Clutch Player of the Year Award winner, and he's averaged 23 points and six assists throughout his career. Not to mention, Castle is still only a sophomore. As much as everyone loves him, he's not quite ready to take the reins of a team that has a top-five player on it who's ready to kick in the postseason door.

I'm sure he will be soon. But for now, let him continue to grow and play the position that led to a National Championship at UConn. He was an off-ball guard there, and he thrived in the role. He'll still get the rock, and he'll still have chances to throw lobs to Vic. There's no need to disrespect your own point guard to laud Steph, and he wouldn't want that, either.
