Wembanyama expresses sense of urgency for upcoming task
The season has reached a point where many fans usually check out after a year of egregiously bad losses but things are different this time around. With Victor Wembanyama as a member of the San Antonio Spurs, expectations change and excitement does not level off. There is way too much potential in what the front office is building to lose intrigue; couple that with a rookie phenom who takes every game seriously and the juice just rolls downhill to electrify the fan base.
This is a proud franchise. Their 2023 first-round draft pick is a proud player. He already spoke to his mindset on playing out the season, highlighting an understanding of the responsibility he has as the generational talent everyone has gushed about. This latest statement shows that those words are not hollow. He cares about the game inside the game and with the Memphis Grizzlies coming up, fans should expect a big performance from Wembanyama.
Wembanyama's mentality shows he will treat every game with importance
The Grizzlies winning streak versus the Spurs needs to come to an end. It is egregious at this point. The last time these teams matched up was on March 22 and Memphis won 99-97 despite playing the game without the service of multiple key players, including their star point guard Ja Morant. The Spurs, on the other hand, had their complete squad minus the services of Charles Bassey, who has been out since December.
Wembanyama has not been a member of the Spurs long enough to bear the brunt of most of the losses to the Grizzlies. Regardless, it must not take that many times to be on the receiving end of an L to the same team for Victor to have enough. A lot of people believe there is nothing left to play for but Wemby called this game a "must-win." This team needs players with that type of animosity towards losing.
