Devin Vassell's recovery timeline is no doubt a huge bummer when such an exciting season is approaching. Everyone is ready to watch him and Victor Wembanyama evolve into one of the league's elite duos.

It's unfortunate, but thankfully, he's not expected to miss much time since he'll be reevaluated as soon as November 1. But that's not the good news Spurs fans should be happy to hear.

Bassey and Collins can hit the ground running

Charles Bassey and Zach Collins being ready to go to start the season is a fantastic report to receive. Collins, who tore his labrum in the final game of last season, has been the subject of a ton of criticism from the Silver and Black faithful thus far, but right now, he's the only other big on the team that may stretch the floor with some semblance of consistency.

Yes, he shot the rock so poorly at the beginning of the season he lost his starting spot next to Wemby and was even told to stop popping after the pick altogether by Coach Pop. But he also turned it around by the end of the season and shot 44% from deep over the two months.

If he can pick up where he left off, that's a huge asset to San Antonio and their front-court depth, which is currently looked at as one of their biggest areas of weakness.

Bassey, making his way back from an ACL tear, is the big bruiser the Spurs need when they match up against other teams with size and who play with more physicality, but he has to stay on the floor. This will be his fourth season in the NBA, and he hasn't finished a season yet.

It's truly a shame because the Western Kentucky alum is talented and plays with a high motor. He's also San Antonio's most athletic big outside of The Alien, whose metrics shouldn't even be compared to anyone because he's built like he came straight from Coach Pop's secret laboratory.

The Spurs will enter the season with Wembanyama, Bassey, Collins, Jeremy Sochan, and Mamukelashvili as their frontcourt players, with Harrison Barnes capable of playing the four if needed.

Coach Pop will undoubtedly experiment to find the right combinations during training camp and preseason. It's a good problem to have as long as the players held up their end of the bargain by improving in the offseason. They're all good guys, and it would be nice to see them all play well. Not to mention the success it would bring San Antonio, and that's why we're here.
