Late 2nd round

51. Wizards (via Suns) choose Payton Sandfort

52. Warriors (via Bucks) snag Trevon Brazile

53. Pistons (via Knicks) draft Judah Mintz

54. Celtics (via Mavericks) select Adem Bona

55. Lakers (via Clippers) choose Bronny James

56. Nuggets (via Timberwolves) add Ulrich Chomche

57. Grizzlies (via Thunder) take Nikola Djurisic

58. Mavericks (via Celtics) draft Mohamed Diarra

Spurs draft haul

  • 7th overall: Reed Sheppard, G, Kentucky
  • 8th overall: Ja’Kobe Walter, W, Baylor
  • 35th overall: Justin Edwards, W Kentucky
  • 48th overall: Izan Almansa, F, G League Ignite

The Spurs walk away with one guard, two wings, and a forward to fit around their young core featuring a new star guard. Sheppard likely jumps into the rotation as a rookie. The others need time to develop but have the potential to be impactful role players under the right circumstances.

San Antonio gets some floor spacing, versatility, and defense from this group. It will take them time to blossom, but they are comfortable waiting. Victor Wembanyama may not be. If so, the Spurs have plenty of avenues to add talent.

How much will the San Antonio Spurs improve next season? Does Wemby have them competing for a playoff spot? They must nail this draft to get back into contention. Expect them to get aggressive in adding talent at some point soon, so stay tuned.
