When the San Antonio Spurs visit the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night, it'll mark the first of three showdowns in 12 days.

That schedule quirk could mean the difference in getting a play-in tournament appearance or not, as the Spurs and Blazers are 11th and 12th in the West, respectively, heading into the final stretch of games. As they look to overtake the Lakers and/or the Pelicans for a spot, they'll have to battle each other on three occasions on their journey.

The Spurs are coming off of two full days of rest after last defeating the Golden State Warriors on Sunday on a Keldon Johnson putback shot. Josh Richardson had his best game as a Spur, pouring in 25 points.

Meanwhile, the Trail Blazers ended their four-game losing skid with a 119-115 victory over Detroit on Monday. Former Spur Drew Eubanks had 17 points and eight boards in 31 minutes.

The Spurs blew the doors off of Portland in the first meeting between these teams, winning 114-83 on December 2.

San Antonio Spurs vs Trail Blazers Prediction

Say all you want about motivation to lose for either team, but when it comes down to being under the lights and in front of a crowd, don't expect either team to lay down. Portland may be short several players, including Damian Lillard and Anfernee Simons, but opponents being understaffed hasn't always necessarily led to victories for San Antonio.

Opponent Role Player to Watch: I simply cannot say anyone but Drew Eubanks here. Although the Spurs are the team who first gave him a real shot in the league, they also waived him recently. Look for him to play well against his old team, because that's what always happens.

San Antonio hasn't shown very many signs that they're leaning toward tanking, so I expect all available hands on deck to take care of business given the disparity of available talent. If they get cute, though, anything could happen.
