The San Antonio Spurs need all the wins they can get to make the NBA Play-In Tournament, and the Portland Trail Blazers are first and second on the list.

In a strange quirk on the schedule, the Spurs will be hosting the lottery-bound Blazers twice in three days beginning Friday evening to close out their season series. Once a formidable threat, Portland is a shell of itself, reporting double-digit injuries in its most recent game.

The Spurs enter the game after a crushing defeat at the hands of the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday despite Dejounte Murray matching his career-high with 33 points.

Meanwhile, the Trail Blazers dropped their fifth straight game, all of which were part of a five-game homestand. They'll be without Damian Lillard, Anfernee Simons, Jusuf Nurkic, and Josh Hart, among several others.

The Spurs have won both meetings this season by an average of 34 points and should be heavily favored in this one.

San Antonio Spurs vs Trail Blazers Prediction

I know the Spurs have blown out Portland twice already, but we still need to remember this is the NBA. Everyone on the court is there for a reason, and San Antonio has had a tendency to play down to the competition all season long.

That said, the Spurs have been playing much better as of late and haven't been allowing that to happen as much as it did before the NBA All-Star break.

Opponent role player to watch: Journeyman Ben McLemore is the definition of a streaky shooter, and lately, he's been on the positive side. He buried eight threes a couple of games ago and another three against the Pelicans. The Spurs need to pay attention to where he is on the perimeter.

If the Spurs manage to drop this one, it'll be the worst loss of the season by far considering what's at stake. I'm going with them taking care of business in the second half, but they must respect their opponent no matter how shorthanded they are.

Update: Dejounte Murray is a late scrap for this game with an upper respiratory illness.
