The entire season will be on the line when the San Antonio Spurs travel to face the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night.

In their second NBA Play-In Tournament in as many years, the Spurs will look to avenge their narrow loss to Memphis last season -- one that ended their hopes at a playoff berth. An upset win over the Pelicans would set a date with the LA Clippers for the 8th seed in the Western Conference Playoffs on Friday.

This will be the first nationally-televised game for the San Antonio Spurs this season, and the team is undoubtedly hungry to make sure their run doesn't end here. Meanwhile, the Pelicans made an all-in move in February and will surely have more at stake toward their immediate future in this one.

The Spurs took three of four from the Pelicans this season, last winning 107-103 on March 26th.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Pelicans Prediction

I've been hearing from various NBA podcasts that this matchup is the most unpredictable NBA Play-In Tournament game, and I tend to agree. Sure, the Spurs took three of four from New Orleans, but they also suffered their worst loss of the season at the Pelicans' hands. I think we can throw the regular season out the window in this winner-take-all game.

This one will come down to the Spurs being able to limit the Pelicans' second-chance opportunities while also avoiding a cold night from the outside. They'll also need to keep in check the one-two punch of star power of CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram.

Opponent Role Player to Watch: The Pelican's 6-11 center, Jaxson Hayes, is exactly the type of guy the Spurs can often lose track of in a game like this. He's an energy that thrives on dump-off passes and lobs as well as crashing the glass for putbacks. The Spurs often give up big nights to those guys,

I wrote this in my last prediction between these teams, and it still applies as well as ever: This is about as close to a toss-up as you can get if both teams play to their potential, and I really have no confidence either way.

The Spurs have one proven star in Dejounte Murray while the Pelicans have two. If someone can join Dejounte in leading the way, San Antonio can pull off the upset. That's entirely possible, but I'll go with the home team in a nail-biter. Here's hoping I'm wrong.

Pelicans 112, Spurs 106
