After winning four straight, the San Antonio Spurs have lost their last two and are looking to right the ship against a shorthanded Denver Nuggets team.

The Spurs will likely be short a couple of key players as well, as Devin Vassell (quad) and Keldon Johnson (ankle) are both doubtful for the matchup. It will be Vassell's sixth straight missed game as he continues to heal from a quadriceps injury.

Meanwhile, the 12-12 Nuggets have lost eight of their last 11 and have been decimated by key injuries to Michael Porter, Jamal Murray, and PJ Dozier. Denver is coming off a 120-114 overtime win against the New Orleans Pelicans in which 2021 NBA MVP Nikola Jokic posted a triple-double of 39 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds.

The Nuggets have won three straight against the Spurs, including a 102-96 victory in the second game of this season.

San Antonio Spurs vs Nuggets Prediction

The Denver Nuggets just went into overtime against the New Orleans Pelicans and then had to fly straight to San Antonio to prepare for this one. There were four different players that logged 36 minutes or more in that contest, including 37 minutes for Jokic.

Meanwhile, the Spurs have been waiting at home since their loss to the Knicks on Tuesday.

Considering the back-to-back for Denver and their numerous injuries, this would certainly be an embarrassing loss by San Antonio if they can't find a way to pull away with a win here. Unfortunately, this team is far from immune to suffering embarrassing losses.

This is a trap game that the Spurs have no business losing, but the loss of Johnson, continued absence of Vassell, and inconsistent shooting might just do them in. I'm doing the Spurs a favor and picking their opponent in this one because I've been on a streak of getting these predictions wrong. They shouldn't drop this one though.
