The San Antonio Spurs are just 1-6 in the new year and are struggling to recover from their loss of multiple key players due to health and safety protocols.

Wednesday marked the returns of Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell to the lineup, who both came off the bench as San Antonio dropped a winnable game to the Houston Rockets 128-124.

Dejounte Murray had a career-high 32 points and posted a triple-double by also recording 11 assists and 10 rebounds. Other than Bryn Forbes and Keldon Johnson, he didn't get much help offensively for a team that was struggling all night to defend without fouling.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers are on their fourth game of a six-game road trip and have won three of the four so far. On Wednesday, Darius Garland posted a triple-double with 11 points, 15 assists, and 10 rebounds to lead them past the Utah Jazz, 111-91.

The two teams split the season series last year, with Cleveland taking the last meeting in April, 125-101.

San Antonio Spurs vs Cleveland Cavaliers Prediction

Yet again, the injury report might have a huge impact on this one. The Cavaliers have clearly established themselves as the better team this season and are still playing well without Collin Sexton and Ricky Rubio, but a fully loaded Spurs team has been able to stand toe-to-toe and defeat even the best teams in the league.

But even with Doug McDermott back for this one, it's tough to see everything clicking immediately for the Spurs against a Cavaliers team that's on a roll. Derrick White's availability could make the difference between another long night or a redemption home game against standout rookie Evan Mobley and company. I'm leaning toward another tough battle that gets away from the Silver and Black, but it's far from a given.
