1. Spurs assist Raptors in FVV sign-and-trade

Fred VanVleet is an unrestricted free agent this summer, and the Spurs desperately need a starting point guard to pair with Victor Wembanyama. San Antonio has the cap space to sign him, so why would they trade for him? The Raptors may want to pick up a trade exception for FVV’s salary to give them more flexibility to make future moves, and they may be willing to give the Spurs a second-rounder to make it happen.

FVV sign-and-trade

Assuming they sign VanVleet for $25 to 30 million per season, that could be a significant trade exception for the Raptors. It would allow him to acquire more salary than they are giving up in trades and just make more moves possible going forward. It would be an option to explore to ensure they got something for the 29-year-old All-Star.

The Fred VanVleet and Victor Wembanyama pick and roll would certainly be exciting. The 6’1 guard would also space the floor and give the rookie an outlet whenever things are breaking down.

Can the Spurs convince VanVleet to come to San Antonio this summer? It would be a long shot, but overpaying for a former All-Star could be massive if Victor Wembanyama can quickly transform into a superstar.
