If the San Antonio Spurs want to create some separation from the teams at the bottom of the Western Conference, a win over the Oklahoma City Thunder would be a nice start.

The Spurs are coming off another late-game collapse at the hands of the NBA-leading Phoenix Suns Monday, 121-107. Jakob Poeltl had one of his best games in San Antonio in his return from a back injury, posting 23 points and 14 rebounds in the game.

Meanwhile, the Thunder lost 104-102 on Monday despite 34 points from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to fall to 14-29 on the season.

The Thunder have won the last three meetings against the Spurs and got 20 points from Mike Muscala in November's 99-94 win over the Silver and Black.

San Antonio Spurs vs Oklahoma City Thunder Prediction

A loss here by the Spurs would put the Thunder just behind them in the Western Conference standings and be another disappointing speed bump on the current homestand. Despite holding Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to just 14 points in their last meeting, San Antonio allowed 41 bench points from Oklahoma City in the last meeting and needs to show some urgency defensively this time around.

Much like Dejounte Murray, Gilgeous-Alexander is a dark-horse candidate to make the All-Star Game but is hampered by the team's poor record. This will be a perfect opportunity for Murray to make his case late as a potential replacement if COVID or injuries open the guard position further.

Jakob Poeltl was in health and safety protocols the last time these teams met but is coming off one of his best performances.

Look for the Spurs to build a nice lead in the third quarter and have several standout performances in a revenge win.
