The San Antonio Spurs begin a grueling seven-game road trip with a showdown against Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday.

The Spurs are coming off of three days of rest after their scheduled home game against the Heat was postponed due to Miami not being able to produce the required eight players. They've won four of their last six but dropped a home game to Utah in their last outing.

The Grizzlies have won three straight and are fresh off a 104-99 comeback win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Ja Morant had an epic performance in the win, putting up 41 points and 10 boards in 35 minutes.

Memphis took three of four from San Antonio last season, including a play-in tournament game win.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Grizzlies Prediction

It's really a shame that Dejounte Murray will be missing this one. He and Morant are both having incredible seasons and are in prime position to make their NBA All-Star Game debuts. Given the loaded Western Conference, however, they could be battling for a final spot.

As of now, Morant has the edge for making his All-Star debut when you look at how his individual performances are leading to more team success. Friday's first and only matchup before All-Star voting concludes would've at least allowed Murray to try and make his own statement in the matter.

Instead, the Spurs will need huge performances from their next men up, Derrick White and Keldon Johnson, to keep up with the Grizzlies' full-team talent.

One thing that might benefit the Spurs will be the absence of Dillon Brooks, who is currently in health and safety protocols and has lit up San Antonio often in the past. Still, the Grizzlies have plenty of weapons beyond Morant, including Desmond Bane, who has had a remarkable sophomore season worthy of Most Improved Player chatter.

This is a tough way to start a long road trip, and I feel like the Grizzlies just have too much firepower to overcome without Dejounte.
