The San Antonio Spurs finally managed to win two games in a row this season, but their upcoming road trip could be humbling if they aren't careful. Beginning Thursday against the Portland Trail Blazers, they have to meet three teams on the road they went a combined 2-5 against last season.

There were plenty of positives to take away from San Antonio's 116-99 win over the Washington Wizards -- most notably the return of the Spurs' stingy defense. The Spurs also enjoyed a huge 18-point third quarter from Derrick White, who badly needed to break out of his extended slump.

Meanwhile, the Trail Blazers are coming off a wire-to-wire home win over the Detroit Pistons without Damian Lillard, who sat out the contest with abdominal pain. One player to watch is Norman Powell, who's shooting a blistering 44.4% from three through 18 games played.

Portland won two of three against the Spurs last season, with their latest victory being a 22-point blowout in May.

San Antonio Spurs vs Trail Blazers Prediction

There's a lot to factor in when trying to predict exactly what's going to happen here. Portland comes into the matchup with the second-worst defensive rating in the league after recently giving up 118 and 129 to the Warriors and Jazz, respectively. They'll also be without Damian Lillard.

The Spurs, meanwhile, are building momentum but have lost four straight road games. This also has "trap game" written all over it given the likely returns of Devin Vassell and Doug McDermott paired with the loss of Lillard for Portland.

I think this one is as close to a toss-up as you can get. When that's the case, I tend to lean toward the more consistent team as the one that will come out on top. Even without Damian, I can't quite trust this Spurs team yet. San Antonio has to face the two best teams in the league coming up after this game though, so here's hoping they prove me wrong.
