Even if the San Antonio Spurs don't play all that well this season, they still might end up in a play-in tournament position by default. It's hard to see the Rockets or Pelicans being an issue in the Western Conference, but the Thunder, Wolves, and Kings might be a different story.
Sacramento and San Antonio might very well end up being neck-and-beck record-wise throughout the season, so getting a good start in the series could prove pivotal. The Spurs will host the Kings in two of the three matchups this season, so they already have one advantage in that regard.
The Spurs won two of three against the Kings last season and are coming off a disappointing collapse against the Thunder.
The Kings, meanwhile have lost two straight and are fresh off a five-point home loss to the Phoenix Suns.

San Antonio Spurs vs Sacramento Kings Prediction
Both of these teams are equally unpredictable. Dejounte Murray and Harrison Barnes have been the shining stars for their respective teams and are both having the best year of their career through the first few weeks of the season.
Sacramento's guards (De'Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield) have also been a thorn in the side of the Spurs for a while now, and Tyrese Haliburton has had some of the best games of his young career against them.
This one will come down to how well the Spurs' much-improved defense can close out on the Kings' 3-point shooters and if they can avoid the dreaded third quarter stretch they've seemed to make a ritual. Still, these teams are so equally matched and flawed that I think this could be the Spurs' second overtime game of the season.
I'm taking the Spurs in a nailbiter, and I'd be surprised if Derrick White doesn't bounce back for his first 20-plus point game of the season.
Spurs 117, Kings 111 (OT)
