The San Antonio Spurs had a thrilling return to normalcy when they treated a crowd of over 16,000 to a runaway victory in their season-opener on Wednesday. The game was highlighted by an evenly distributed offense in which seven different guys scored in double figures while the defense held Orlando to 96 points.
While the victory was exciting for fans and was evidence the Spurs won't nearly be as unexciting as many claim they'll be, a whole different animal awaits them on Friday.
Last season's MVP, Nikola Jokic, has had his way with the Spurs pretty much since he's entered the league. The last time San Antonio was able to hold him below 19 points was in December of 2018. I fully don't expect that to change any time soon.
Jokic comes off a 27-point, 13-rebound debut in a win over the Phoenix Suns. Michael Porter Jr, who is a favorite for the NBA Most Improved Award by many, will also be one to watch in the matchup.
