After going 3-2 in the preseason, the San Antonio Spurs will begin their 2021-22 NBA season at home against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday evening. Suddenly one of the youngest rosters in the NBA, the Spurs seek a return to the playoffs for the first time in three years.

The season opener gives the Silver and Black an opportunity to get the season started on the right foot before they immediately begin a stretch of five games against opponents that made the NBA playoffs last season.

San Antonio comes off a dominant 126-98 preseason victory over the Houston Rockets while the Magic slid past the Boston Celtics in their preseason finale 103-102 on October 13th. The Spurs have won three straight regular season meetings against Orlando and got the better of them in the preseason, 101-100.

San Antonio Spurs vs Orlando Magic Odds, Spread, Over/Under & Betting Pick

The latest odds from WynnBet have the Spurs as -5.5 favorites against the Magic, who finished with a record of 21-51 last season. Currently, Orlando is at -110 to cover.

Moneyline
Orlando Magic: +195
San Antonio Spurs: -230

The over/under for the matchup is 215.5. The Spurs finished last season ranked 20th in points per game (111.1) and 19th in points allowed per game (112.8) while the Magic finished 29th in PPG (104.0) and 20th in PPG allowed (113.3).

San Antonio Spurs vs Orlando Magic Prediction

Given how quickly the Spurs' schedule heats up (games against Denver, Milwaukee, and Los Angeles looming), they should come out with a sense of urgency in front of their home crowd. San Antonio finished with a lowly 14-22 record at home last season and will need every victory they can possibly get against opponents like Orlando.

For San Antonio, look for Dejounte Murray and Derrick White to continue where they left off against the Houston Rockets in the preseason finale. Both scored 20 points and dished out 5+ assists and are expected to be the team's best players this season.

One to watch for the Magic is newly acquired R.J. Hampton, who had an impressive preseason capped off with a 20-point, eight-rebound game against Boston.

While I could see some early jitters leading to a deficit for this young squad, I think a strong second half leads the Spurs to a relatively comfortable win.
