The San Antonio Spurs selected Victor Wembanyama with the number one overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. It was no surprise as the front office has been planning for his arrival from the moment that they won the lottery.

Wemby is a one-of-a-kind talent that could be the best player in the NBA quickly. He is a 7’4 big man that can score, space the floor, create shots, handle the ball, protect the rim, and literally do it all. Wembanyama will amaze fans and makes the Spurs infinitely more fun to watch. He is the most-hyped prospect since LeBron James for a ton of reasons.

It was a foregone conclusion that Wembanyama would be the top pick, but it was special to watch the 7’4 big man take the stage. The 19-year-old French prodigy got emotional as he realized a dream.

It is clear that Wembanyama is special on and off the court, and he was moved to tears after hearing his name called by commissioner Adam Silver on Thursday night.

Head coach Gregg Popovich made his excitement about the pick clear in his press conference shortly after the selection.

Coach Pop also let fans know that they won't have to wait long to see Wemby in a Spurs uniform as he will play in summer league. Supporters should be drooling because he is certain to put on a show.

The Spurs are far from done this offseason. They plan on adding veterans to round out their roster in hopes of building a competitive roster around Victor Wembanyama in year one. Can San Antonio find the right pieces?
