Ranking the young core by how important they are to the Spurs’ future

8.) Blake Wesley
San Antonio selected Blake Wesley with the 25th overall pick in 2022, adding him to their impressive draft-night haul of Jeremy Sochan and Malaki Branham. Despite his status as a first-rounder, the 20-year-old guard is a raw prospect on both ends of the floor. He will have plenty of time to develop, but don't expect those minutes to come with San Antonio.
Wesley showcased his burst last season and flashed playmaking skills at Summer League, but that was muddied by questionable decision-making, loose ballhandling, and erratic defense. The young floor general is a low-risk investment, but he must clean up his game if he wants to carve out a long-term future with the Spurs.
