8th Pick: Devin Carter
Drafting Devin Carter makes a lot of sense for the Spurs, with him potentially being able to start at point guard next season, making him too good to pass up at eight. Carter looks like he could be a difference-maker immediately for next year's Spurs, but he flew under the radar until an impressive showing at the NBA Combine, where he posted a stellar 42-inch vertical leap, which was tied for the best there.
Add in that he measured out at 6'3 with a 6'9 wingspan and Carter looks like a terrific NBA prospect. Especially after a strong season at Providence, where he averaged 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists. His big 6.7 points per game scoring leap from his sophomore to junior season was a result of a drastically improved shot, in which he drilled 37.7% of his 6.8 3-point attempts per game.
Being able to shoot from the outside, finish at the rim, and rebound all make him a nice fit. Not to mention that he is also a terrific defender. Carter may even be the team's long-term answer at point guard for the Spurs, which would be great value for the 8th pick.
