NBA Center Tier List: Where does Zach Collins rank?
By Cal Durrett
Tier Four: Certified Starters
Tier four's seven centers that are classified as certified starters include a recent Spur Jakob Poeltl. However, this list does not include Collins, at least not yet. Collins produced like a player in this tier following the Spurs trading Poeltl to the Toronto Raptors. Collins averaged a strong 16.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists post-trade.
13.) Nic Claxton
14.) Robert Williams
15.) Ivica Zubac
16.) Al Horford
17.) Clint Capela
18.) Jakob Poeltl
19.) Kevon Looney
And while those numbers are likely to go down some with the arrival of Wembanyama and the team not tanking, he could still be productive as a starting center. Especially now that he will be in that role full-time since Wembanyama will play power forward to start his career.
If Collins can continue to space the floor and knock down open threes, score in the post, rebound, and pass, it's entirely possible that he could make his way into tier four next season. Instead, due to a limited number of games starting for the Spurs, he doesn't yet have enough of a resume to be here. With two more center tiers remaining, let's see where Collins ends up.
