The Spurs epic 19-game win streak was an unforgettable ride

The crown jewel of the Spurs' franchise records is undoubtedly their 19-game winning streak during the 2013-14 season. This run helped propel the Spurs to a 62-20 regular-season record and ultimately to the NBA Finals.

San Antonio avenged their heartbreaking 2013 Finals loss to the Miami Heat in spectacular fashion, capping the season with a dominant performance in the 2014 Finals to win their fifth NBA championship.

This streak isn't just a testament to the team's resilience after losing in the Finals a year earlier but also their ability to play team basketball at an elite level. Gregg Popovich’s system of ball movement and unselfish play was on full display during this stretch, and it set the tone for what many regard as one of the most beautifully played Finals series ever.

For context, only six teams in NBA history have had a longer winning streak, and only one team has matched or surpassed San Antonio’s 19-game run since then.

Consistent winning has been a trend for a long time in San Antonio

The second-longest streak in franchise history, 17 games, came during the 1995-96 season when David Robinson was at the peak of his powers. While that Spurs team fell short of an NBA title, Robinson’s leadership and dominance kept the team competitive.

The 15-game streak during the 1994-95 season occurred right as the Spurs were growing into a force in the Western Conference. They finished with a 62-20 record that season but ultimately fell short in the playoffs.

Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, the Spurs remained a model of consistency, stringing together numerous 13-game streaks during various seasons. Whether it was in 2006-07, which ended with their fourth NBA title, or 2015-16, when they finished with a franchise-record 67 wins, San Antonio proved time and again that they could win in bunches.

There will be many more winning streaks thanks to Wemby

While the Spurs are in a rebuilding phase now, the excitement surrounding Victor Wembanyama offers hope for a return to these winning ways. The franchise's history of success, as highlighted by these streaks, suggests that greatness could be just around the corner.

The Spurs may not reach a double-digit win streak anytime soon, but with a core of young talent and a player as gifted as Wembanyama leading the way, it's only a matter of time before San Antonio gets back to being the type of force in the league that teams expect a dog fight from, as they use prayer as a form of game planning for Wemby.

Hopefully, these winning streaks will remind Spurs fans of the glory days but also offer a glimpse of what may be on the horizon if everything goes according to plan.
