The San Antonio Spurs have had a surprisingly eventful offseason. They traded the 8th overall pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves, signed Chris Paul, and traded for Harrison Barnes in less than a three-week span. If that weren't enough, Bleacher Report has a tantalizing proposed deal that would have the Spurs adding an all-star to their offseason haul.
While they have worked to improve their two weakest positions, point guard and small forward, San Antonio's roster isn't well-balanced at the moment. As they try to improve enough to make the play-in tournament or the playoffs, they may make another move to get them closer to where they want to be.
The New Orleans Pelicans are looking to make similar changes as they try to improve their standing in the tough Western Conference. They acquired former Spurs all-star Dejounte Murray, let their starting center from last season walk, and appear to be shopping one of their stars. So far, they are a work in progress, which seemingly makes the Spurs and Pelicans ideal trade partners. Next up, we will take a look at Bleacher Report's hypothetical Spurs and Pelicans deal and see whether the deal would make sense for the Spurs.
