ESPN's bold Wembanyama career predictions would be a game-changer for the Spurs

The summer is normally when young players get significantly better, and that is the hope for rising superstar Victor Wembanyama. San Antonio Spurs fans are likely watching each game Team France plays with Wembanyama closely and through two games at the Olympics, he has played extremely well. Victor is averaging 18.5 points while shooting 44.4% from three, 10 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 3 steals.
Spending the offseason playing with and against some of the best players in the world is the perfect way for the Spurs' best player to get better and that leads us to a recent straw poll conducted by ESPN's NBA experts regarding his potential. While Spurs fans probably don't expect much from ESPN, they were surprisingly bullish about his future.
ESPN's experts give Wembanyama an 89.5% chance of becoming the best player in the NBA within three seasons and a 42% chance of doing so in year three. Having the best player in the NBA would dramatically alter the Spurs, with them potentially being in title contention as a result of Wembanyama.
Experts believe Wemby can become NBA's best player
That leads to another question about how many titles he could win, with 68% of ESPN experts projecting two or three championships. Doing so would put him in all-time greatest player discussions, with few players leading a team to two, let alone three titles. Of course, Spurs icon Tim Duncan did, and Wembanyama doing the same would give even him a run for his money. Actually, it may be even harder for Wemby, particularly with the new CBA favoring parity over dynasties.
When asked how many MVPs he could win in his career, 70% believe he will win two or three. Two would match him with Duncan, while three would put him in rare air, with him joining the likes of Larry Bird, Nikola Jokic and Magic Johnson. Other questions asked include whether he will finish his career in San Antonio, with yes narrowly beating out no.
Given the dramatic increase in salaries and the second apron, teams will have to be stingy with who they give the super max to and Wembanyama projects to be a super max caliber of player. Assuming he qualifies for a rookie max, that would potentially keep him in San Antonio for at least nine seasons and if the Spurs offer him a super max, then that would take him into his 30s, decreasing the chances that he leaves.
That aside, Wembanyama becoming the best player in three years, winning two or three MVPs, and leading the Spurs to as many championships would be huge. It would also mean that Wemby lives up to his full potential with the Spurs.
